Voici le palmares complet de l’édition 2025 du FICA qui s’est déroulée du 11 au 18 février 2025
CYCLO D’OR D’HONNEUR (offert par Communauté d’agglomération et la ville de Vesoul) : à Jia Zhang-ke réalisateur (Chine) et à Zhao Tao, actrice (Chine).

The Land of Morning Calm de Park Ri-woong (Corée) – Regarder ce film, c’est comme plonger dans l’océan. Le réalisateur nous entraîne sous la surface apaisante pour nous immerger dans les profondeurs de la vie, au cœur des courants sous-jacents d’une réalité en perpétuelle agitation. Il parvient, contre toute attente, à conserver une simplicité fluide dans son langage cinématographique tout en restant profondément attentif à son sujet. Cela nous permet d’observer de près, de réfléchir et d’être touchés par la lumière de la nature humaine.
GRAND PRIX DU JURY :
Abel d’Elzat Eskendir (Kazakhstan) – Nous sommes profondément touchés par l’authenticité et l’assurance de la vision créative du réalisateur. Il porte un regard réfléchi sur l’histoire de son propre pays avec une attitude déterminée et sereine. À travers des plans et des mouvements soigneusement conçus, le réalisateur capture les conflits et la colère du peuple sur cette terre désolée, guidant le spectateur à revisiter l’ère tumultueuse que le Kazakhstan a traversée après son indépendance.
L’acteur principal, Yerlan Tuleutayev, incarne avec précision et subtilité à la fois la vulnérabilité et la résilience, nous permettant de ressentir pleinement les luttes de ces individus ordinaires qui tentent de survivre au cœur des bouleversements historiques.
PRIX DU JURY (offert par le Conseil Départemental de la Haute-Saône) :
Deal at the Border de Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi (Kirghizistan) pour sa capacité à entrelacer magistralement les thèmes de la survie et du choix moral, tout en mettant en avant une performance remarquable de l’acteur principal. Cette œuvre poignante éveille les émotions et suscite la réflexion.
MENTION SPECIALE : To Kill a Mongolian Horse deJiang Xiaoxuan (Chine) : un premier film intime et captivant, offrant une représentation émouvante et audacieuse d’une société en mutation.
PRIX DU JURY NETPAC (NETWORK FOR THE PROMOTION OF ASIAN CINEMA), président : Jo Ji-hoon, universitaire (Corée), membres : Patrick Campos, programmateur (Philippines), Aloÿse de La Faye, spécialiste du cinéma birman
Abel d’Elzat Eskendir (Kazakhstan) : Ce film offre un regard puissant sur l’impact du démantèlement des fermes collectives sur la vie des bergers au Kazakhstan après l’effondrement de l’URSS. À travers Abel et sa famille, il montre comment leurs valeurs traditionnelles les relèguent aux marges de la société tout en leur offrant un refuge où ils peuvent restaurer leur dignité et retrouver leur place dans un monde en mutation. Le réalisateur fait preuve d’une maîtrise exceptionnelle de la mise en scène dans ce premier film.

Deal at the Border de Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi (Kirghizistan) avec un scénario bien écrit et une production soigneusement réalisée, cette histoire simple et toute en sensibilité nous a captivés dès le début. Ce film au casting crédible et efficace a toutes les chances de rencontrer un large public en salle.
PRIX DU JURY DE LA CRITIQUE, président : Hubert Niogret, critique (Positif) ; membres : Frédéric Ambroisine (spécialiste du cinéma hongkongais), Jean-Luc Gadreau (France culture) :
Abel d’Elzat Eskendir (Kazakhstan) Parmi la sélection des 9 films en compétition, tous intéressants, le film Abel nous a semblé la révélation d’un vrai cinéaste par la qualité de sa mise en scène. L’organisation de l’espace, le rythme de ses longs plans, la direction d’acteurs non professionnels sont les atouts de ce premier film déjà mature.
PRIX DES AMIS DU MUSEE GUIMET (offert par la société des Amis du musée Guimet), présidente : Christophe Calame, membres : Nicole Judet-Brugier, Chantal Perianin
Deal at the Border de Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi (Kirghizistan)parce qu’il montre comment un petit gangster se transforme en une véritable Antigone du Kirghizistan, en donnant sa vie pour faire enterrer dans son village une jeune esclave fugitive. Ce film démontre l’accord profond des plus anciennes traditions culturelles et de l’universalisme humain.
COUP DE CŒUR AMIS DU MUSEE GUIMET
To Kill a Mongolian Horse de Jang Xiaoxuan (Chine) : Le portrait de cet éleveur mongol peu à peu dépossédé de son identité dans une société qui transforme ses traditions en attractions touristiques, où ni la langue ni la culture autour du cheval ne sont plus transmises nous interpelle profondément. En tant qu’amis de Guimet, cette réflexion sur l’acculturation résonne avec notre mission de préserver et valoriser les patrimoines culturels d’Asie.

THE LAND OF MORNING CALM by Park Ri-woong (South Korea) – Watching this film is like taking a dive into the sea. The director led us dive from the calming surface into the depth of life, entering the core zone of undercurrents of the surging reality.
The director had unexpectedly managed to stay eased in his film language but keep focused on his observations. It allows us to takea close gaze, to think, and to be touched by the light of humannature.
GRAND JURY AWARD:
ABEL by Elzat Eskendir (Kazakhstan). We are deeply moved by the authenticity and confidence of the director’s creative vision. He reflects on the history of his own country with a determined and undisturbed attitude. Through the carefully designed shots and movements, the director captures the conflicts and angers of the people on this desolate land, guiding the audience to follow and look back at the turbulent era Kazakhstan has experienced afterindependence. The main actor Yerlan Tuleutayev portraysvulnerability and resilience with precision and subtlety, allowingus to empathize with the struggles of these ordinary individualsstriving to survive amidst the waves of historical change.
JURY PRIZE (offered by the Departmental Council of Haute-Saône):
DEAL AT THE BORDER by Dastan ZhaparRyskeldi (Kirghizistan) for its capability of masterfullyintertwining the themes of survival and moral choice, showcasing a remarkable performance by the male lead. This poignant work stirsemotions and provokes thought.

ABEL by Elzat Eskendir (Kazakhstan). This film offers a powerfullook at the impact of the dismantling of collective farms on the livesof shepherds in Kazakhstan after the USSR’s collapse. ThroughAbel and his family, it shows how their traditional values push them to the margins and provide a refuge from which they can restore their dignity and find their place in a changing world.Thedirector shows exceptional directing ability in this debut film.

DEAL AT THE BORDER by Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi(Kyrgyzstan) for his script well-written, and the production carefullycrafted. We were captivated from the very beginning of this film. A simple story of love and the protagonist’s journey to discover the purpose of an otherwise insignificant existence. The acting is believableand effective. It is an artistic film with the potential for mainstream success, making it easy to appreciate for all.

The spatial composition, the rhythm of its long takes, and the direction of non-professional actors are the strengths of thisremarkably mature debut film.

DEAL AT THE BORDER by Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi(Kirghizistan) Because it shows how a small-time gangster transformsinto a true Antigone of Kyrgyzstan, sacrificing his life to ensure the burial of a young fugitive slave in his village. This film powerfullydemonstrates the deep harmony between ancient cultural traditions and universal human values.
THE FRIENDS OF THE GUIMET MUSEUM FAVORITE:
TO KILL A MONGOLIA HORSE by Jiang Xiaoxua (China) The portrait of this Mongolian herder, gradually dispossessed of his identity in a society that is transforming its traditions into tourist attractions, where neither the language or the culture surrounding the horse are passed on, is deeply moving. As friends of Guimet, this reflection on acculturation resonates with our mission to preserve and promote Asia’s cultural heritage.
